Lynch Skatepark

It has been cold, cold in Lincoln these past weeks, but I will skate again in the spring. Even if you are not a skater, you should know about Lynch Skatepark and other projects like it. This park is built on top of an old, unused, concrete tennis court in South Omaha. It began when a group of committed members in the skate community came together to construct DIY ramps and obstacles, but the group got a big boost after receiving a $10,000 grant from The Skatepark Project, Tony Hawk’s nonprofit “dedicated to helping underserved communities build free, safe, high-quality public skateparks.” Then, in 2024, Omaha City Council approved $150,000 for skatepark renovation, proving that the government does occasionally acknowledge the value of alienated subcultures.
