Kenneth Michael Hoover (b. 1991) was born at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri and raised in a middle-income household in Des Moines, Iowa. An embodiment of cultural difference in American society, his father’s family hails from Virginia and rural North Carolina, whereas his mother’s family comes from suburban Ohio and Pennsylvania.
He is a poet and scholar pursuing a PhD at the University of Nebraska, where he teaches and works for the Whitman Archive and Prairie Schooner. His writing has earned McKenna Fellowships in Creative Nonfiction, a Maher Scholarship in Graduate Research, and the Wardle, Lane, and Spire Fellowship. He lives in Lincoln with his family.
