Kenneth Michael Hoover was born in 1991 at a US Air Force hospital in Missouri. His father’s family is from the Appalachian region of North Carolina, and his mother grew up in suburban Ohio. He began writing songs and lyrics as a teenager in Iowa, and he worked for a time at Strand Book Store in New York City. He is a PhD student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and has studied poetry with Anne Waldman, Kwame Dawes, Bob Darcy, Ken Price, and others. He practices Buddhism in the Plum Village tradition of Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh and has been married since 2017.
